Landslip Warning Signs

During heavy rainfall and in particular during the hoisting of Landslip Warning, pedestrians should avoid walking or standing close to slopes or retaining walls where Landslip Warning signs are erected. Motorists should avoid driving in hilly areas or on roads with standard traffic warning sign 487. For slopes and retaining walls which have been identified to be substandard or to pose a landslide risk, appropriate warning signs will be erected. Warning signs are erected on the following 4 types of slopes:

1.  Private Slopes served with Dangerous Hillside Order (DH Order)

DH Sign 2

This sign signifies a private slope which has been found to be dangerous or liable to become dangerous. A statutory order (DH Order) has been issued by the Buildings Authority to the owners requiring for investigation and/or remedial works.

2.  Government Slopes Pending Landslip Preventive Measures (LPM) Upgrading Works

DH Sign 4

This sign signifies a Government slope which has been included in an LPM works contract for upgrading.

3.
Slopes Affecting Squatters included in the Non-development Clearance (NDC) Programme

This sign serves to warn the affected squatters about potential landslide risk before rehousing. The affected squatter structures have been found to be especially vulnerable to landslide risk during heavy rainfall, and GEO has recommended to the Housing Department (HD) to include the squatter structures in the NDC programme.

DH Sign 3

4.  Slopes Along Busy Roads with a History of Landslides.

This warning sign is erected along such roads using standard traffic warning sign 487.
